DIGITAL EXPERIENCE at CES, LAS VEGAS - Jan. 4, 2006 - Memorex, the number one North American retail provider of digital media, will add the highly anticipated High Definition DVD (HD-DVD) and Blu-ray formats to its industry-leading family of recordable optical media early this year. The high definition discs will feature Memorex’s DuraLayer™ Technology, a special scratch-resistant hard coating that protects media from dust, debris and rough handling.

HD-DVD and Blu-ray both feature very large storage capacities and high data transfer rates, making them ideal for consumers interested in recording high definition TV shows, sporting events and movies in crystal-clear, high-definition resolution. Both formats also offer high capacity storage capability for all data storage needs. The HD-DVD format supports 15GB of capacity on a single layer and 30GB on a double layer disc, while Blu-ray DVDs support 25GB of capacity on a single layer and 50GB on a double layer disc. In contrast, today’s standard DVDs store up to 4.7GB on a single layer or 8.5GB on a double layer disc.

“As high definition broadcasting and HD home theaters continue to proliferate, recordable HD-DVD and Blu-ray media provide the capacity and performance needed to record high resolution programs and movies without sacrificing quality,” said Allen Gharapetian, vice president of marketing and product development for Memorex. “Memorex has always provided consumers with the widest possible variety of media formats and configurations, and we will continue to do so in the high definition era,” said Brad Yeager, director of product marketing, optical media, for Memorex.

The HD-DVD format boasts superior compatibility between hardware and media, while Blu-ray was designed for added capacity. Both use state-of-the-art blue-violet laser technology to support high-definition television recording with excellent picture quality.

Memorex will launch its HD-DVD and Blu-ray media in spring 2006. Pricing will be announced later this year.

Memorex is a member of the DVD Forum, which backs HD-DVD, as well as Blu-ray Disc Association, which supports Blu-ray. For 2005, Memorex retained its position as the number one provider of digital media, outperforming all other brands of CD and DVD media in the United States. For the sixth consecutive year in the CD category and fourth consecutive year in DVDs, Memorex led its competitors in all blank digital media, in both volume and sales, according to The NPD Group, an independent market analysis firm that tracks U.S. point-of-sale information by volume and dollar sales to determine how well products are selling in the nation’s top retailers.
