Con il seguente comunicato stampa AMD ha lanciato ufficialmente sul mercato cinque nuovi processori della linea Phenom II. I chip, il cui processo di fabbricazione è a 45nm, vanno ad ampliare la gamma di unità centrali appartenenti alla piattaforma Dragon.
Questo l'elenco completo delle nuove cpu, utilizzabili sia in abbinamento a motherboard dotate di socket AM2+ che in abbinamento alle più recenti schede madri con socket AM3, con il dettaglio della frequenza di clock a cui operano i quattro (versioni X4) o i tre (versioni X3) core disponibili.

Ma la versatilità dei nuovi chip non è legata soltanto alla loro ampia compatibilità a livello di socket; essi infatti possono cooperare sia con memoria centrale di tipo DDR2 che con le DDR3. In sostanza, questi Phenom II colmano una importante lacuna con l'azienda competitor Intel proprio dal punto di vista della gestione della RAM DDR3.
E' la stessa AMD a stabilire le contrapposizioni dal momento che fa notare che il "Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition costa $145 mentre il prezzo della cpu Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 è pari a $165" e inoltre che "il quad-core AMD Phenom II X4 810 (clock a 2.6GHz) costa $175 mentre il processore Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 (clock a 2.3GHz) ha un prezzo pari a $170".

The triple-core AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition processor is competitively priced at $145 while the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 processor is priced at $165; the AMD processor allows users to get more cores for less money. The quad-core AMD Phenom II X4 810 processor (2.6GHz) is priced at $175 compared to the Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 processor (2.33GHz) at $170.2
