Full Press Release Title: NVIDIA PureVideo Recognized by Industry Expert as Superior Technology for High-Definition Playback

Joe Kane to Showcase NVIDIA PureVideo Technology at the Home Entertainment 2005 Convention

SANTA CLARA, CA—JULY 25, 2005- NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), a worldwide leader in graphics and digital media processors, today announced that video industry expert Joe Kane will highlight NVIDIA PureVideo technology in his seminars at the Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA) Home Entertainment 2005 convention in Las Vegas this week. Mr. Kane will demonstrate the advantages of high-definition (HD) DVD over standard-definition (SD) DVD, and will address the importance of selecting high-quality products and technologies that conform to HD standards, such as NVIDIA PureVideo technology and the Microsoft Windows Media High Definition Video (WMV HD) codec, for optimal image quality.

An Emmy nominee with more than three decades of expertise in video display engineering, production, and operations, Mr. Kane is an expert on display standards and specifications. At the VSDA convention, Mr. Kane will educate attendees on the superior storage capacity and image quality of WMV HD as well as the critical standards, specifications, and technologies he believes are required to produce the best results.

“Many people think HD is not that much better looking than SD,” Mr. Kane said. “This is because they aren’t implementing HD properly. When you’re looking at video generated from a PC, the components you use, such as the graphics hardware, can have a significant impact on picture quality. NVIDIA PureVideo technology’s strict compliance to HD video specifications is designed not only to ensure compatibility and interoperability, but also that the hardware outputs HD properly, so you see gorgeous, the-way-they-were-meant-to-be-seen images.”

Featured in NVIDIA GeForce 6- and 7-Series graphics processing units (GPUs), NVIDIA PureVideo technology conforms to the International Teleproductions Union specification, known as ITU-RBT.709. This high-definition colorspace specification is designed to ensure that the colors output by the GPU to the display remain true and everything looks more realistic. In addition to standards compliance, NVIDIA PureVideo technology:

  • Accelerates WMV HD and MPEG video,
  • Features spatial-temporal de-interlacing for HD and SD content, and
  • Performs inverse telecine, bad edit correction, and other post-processing functions to eliminate jaggies and blurriness, resulting in a sharp picture..

For his VSDA demonstrations, Mr. Kane will use a PC equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX-based graphics card with a DVI output, the Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition operating system, and the Windows Media Player 10. He will be pairing this PC with a 720p projector from Samsung and a large screen to best illustrate the advantages of WMV HD.
