Il chip, che può vantare un MSRP inferiore ai $70, rappresenta una soluzione ottimale per l'equipaggiamento dei sistemi mainstream, caratterizzata da un elevato rapporto qualità/prezzo.
In accordo ad AMD, la nuova cpu è in grado di offrire un incremento prestazionale che può raggiungere la soglia del 55% rispetto ad un prodotto concorrente come il Core 2 Duo E5200 di Intel.
Dal punto di vista delle specifiche, l'Athlon X2 7850 Black Edition, che è elettricamente compatibile con le motherboard socket AM2+, esibisce una frequenza di clock pari a 2.8GHz per ciascuno dei suoi core ed una cache L3 da 2MB di tipo shared. Inoltre, presenta un moltiplicatore sbloccato, o "unlocked", che ne semplifica l'overclock.
